An old gem of Shonen Jump
Can't compare with the recent SJ mangas in graphic, characters desing or plot, though if you have the mind open, might want to try something old for a while.
The story start with super heros who fight giant monsters, such as godzilla and ultraman, but after some chapters, it turn into a wrestling story. This make me belive that the authors changed the main genre on the last moment, though the wrestling turned to be a better story for Kinnikuman. There are many jokes that could only make sense in the time when were made, like talking about an actor, wrestler, or comedian of the 80's; it took me by surprise when the story took a turn for the violent struggles, having people dying in every tornament, and worst, nobody seems to give a sh*t, and even try to befriend with the bad guys. Maybe on that time the plot weren't suppose to make much sense, just needed to have comedy and action scenes.
But, as for me, I got a lot of time in my hands and wont mind to keep reading Kinnikuman, to see where it goes.
If you saw Ultimate Muscle ('98-'05) on tv and like it, and want to know about the past of the Original Muscle League, this is the manga you should read.
